Why QBRs matter in D2C fulfillment

With the halfway point of the year just around the corner, quarterly business reviews (QBRs) should be top of mind for every D2C brand.

QBRs give us the opportunity to zoom out and assess the big picture – tracking key KPIs like order accuracy, fulfillment times, and returns processing against long-term business objectives.

So, what are the biggest benefits of conducting regular QBRs?

1. Performance visibility and accountability

QBRs provide a structured forum to identify performance gaps early – before they become major issues.

For example, a spike in delayed orders might be traced back to SKU mismanagement. Without regular reviews, that trend could go unnoticed for months.

2. Proactive problem solving

Rather than waiting for issues to escalate, QBRs enable both the D2C brand and fulfillment partner to identify inefficiencies, co-design solutions, and implement preventative measures such as staffing plans ahead of peak seasons.

If returns are rising, the QBR is the right forum to dig into root causes – whether it’s product quality, packing errors, or unclear return policies.

3. Forecast alignment and capacity planning

In a seasonal or campaign-driven business, QBRs help align inventory levels, staffing, and timelines by sharing forecasts and promotional calendars.

For example, discussing your Black Friday plans during the Q3 QBR allows your 3PL to ramp up staffing and reserve warehouse space in advance.

4. Tech and integration health check

Most D2C fulfillment operations depend on seamless integration between eCommerce platforms (like Shopify or WooCommerce), ERPs, and the 3PL’s WMS.

QBRs provide the space to troubleshoot data sync issues, discuss platform updates, and address delays in order transmission.

If Shopify order tags for special handling aren’t being read correctly, the QBR is the time to catch and fix it – before customers are affected.

5. Strategic growth planning

QBRs also create a platform for forward-looking conversations – whether you’re expanding into new markets or sales channels, rolling out value-added services like kitting or custom packaging, or planning tech upgrades.

Thinking about expanding into Europe? The QBR is the perfect time to touch base with us about cross-border logistics, customs, and warehouse strategy.
